A chilly dip for a great cause
On 26 December 2024, Charlestown Rowing Club members, families, and friends braved the cold waters of St Austell Bay for our annual Boxing Day Swim. With the festive spirit still in full swing, dozens of hardy swimmers took the plunge to raise funds for both the club and our chosen charity partner for the year — the National Coastwatch Institution (NCI), whose dedicated volunteers help keep us safe on the water.
The morning brought crisp winter sunshine, calm seas, and plenty of laughter as supporters gathered along the shoreline to cheer on the brave souls making their way into the chilly waves. Thanks to generous sponsorships and donations, a fantastic £600 was raised and presented to the NCI team in recognition of their vital work monitoring the coastline and supporting water users across St Austell Bay.
The event was a perfect reminder of what makes Charlestown special — community spirit, courage, and care for those who look after us at sea. A huge thank you to everyone who swam, sponsored, or supported on the day. Same time next year? 🩶🌊❤️
