Following the women’s event on Saturday, the Men’s County Championships took place on Sunday under bright skies and calm seas — a welcome contrast to the day before. The rescheduled format saw racing run efficiently throughout the day, with all rounds completed in daylight and a great atmosphere on the Newquay shoreline.
After a demanding season of training, Charlestown’s Men’s A crew delivered a superb performance, claiming the silver medal in a thrilling two-lap final. A late line-up change just two weeks before the event — with a reshuffled middle pair due to unavailability — only added to the challenge, but the crew adapted quickly. They stormed out of the blocks in the final, holding a fierce pace that had many questioning if it could be sustained. Over both laps, they showed composure, power, and precision to retain their position and secure second place overall.
The Men’s B crew faced a hard-fought first round, narrowly missing out on the top two spots needed to progress after losing ground on a tight first mark. They finished 33rd overall, showing resilience and strong teamwork throughout.
A day of sunshine, skill, and silver — a fitting end to a competitive county weekend.
