On Saturday 27 September 2025, Charlestown’s women’s crews took to the water for the rescheduled Newquay County Championships — a day marked by determination, endurance, and plenty of Cornish weather. With the original date postponed, a revised one-day format saw 86 crews line up for an intense schedule of racing from 8:30 a.m. under grey skies and steady rain.
Charlestown’s Ladies B crew delivered a strong performance in their opening heat, narrowly missing a top-two finish to progress. Their racing ended early, but team spirit remained high as they turned their focus to supporting the rest of the squad, and of course – mandatory Newquay style celebrations.
For the Ladies A crew, it was a day of patience and perseverance. Drawn early in the third round, they faced a long wait as tides and weather delayed racing. Back on the water by 4:30 p.m., they powered through their quarter-final to secure a semi-final place, finishing third to earn a well-deserved spot in the final.
Rowing their last race in near darkness, the crew fought hard to take 6th place overall, ending a long, wet, and unforgettable day with a medal and a huge sense of pride.
