On Saturday 19 July 2025, Charlestown Rowing Club hosted its annual regatta — with a twist. Due to ongoing maintenance in Charlestown Harbour, this year’s event took place at Crinnis Beach, Carlyon Bay, offering a fresh setting and stunning views across the Cornish coast.
Seven clubs joined the line-up: Boscastle, Charlestown, Coverack, Flushing & Mylor, Mevagissey, Padstow, and St Goran Haven. With calm seas, bright sunshine, and a lively crowd of locals and visitors, the stage was set for a full day of exhilarating racing around a challenging triangle course. The beach soon filled with spectators cheering on crews as they battled for position and pride, showcasing the very best of Cornish pilot gig rowing.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, attention turned from competition to celebration. The facilities at Carlyon Beach provided the perfect backdrop for a relaxed post-race social — great food, music, and plenty of laughter shared among the gig rowing community. The 2025 Charlestown Regatta will be remembered not only for its outstanding racing, but for its spirit of adaptability, camaraderie, and coastal charm.

“Looking forward to next year”
“Thanks for running an excellent regatta yesterday. We thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a great location on Carlyon Bay… very good parking control, shore crews to help us load and unload gigs, on-water safety and race marshalling, food and raffles. All very friendly and fun interactions made for an excellent day. It was also great that you widened the race categories to include juniors, novices and masters. “
