Saturday 12th July, 2025

Charlestown Rowing Club travelled across the border to Devon on Saturday 12 July for the Brixham Veterans Championships, taking two women’s crews and one men’s crew to compete against some of the gig rowing’s finest. It was an early start for all as boats were launched under overcast skies and a cool sea breeze rolled across the bay. Conditions were typical of Brixham — a lively chop, shifting wind and plenty of swell to test every crew’s timing and control.

Our Ladies Veterans A crew delivered an exceptional performance throughout the rounds, holding their form and pace to secure a 3rd-place medal in the final. The Men’s Veterans fought hard in their heats, powering through the gusty crosswinds to finish a strong 9th overall. Meanwhile, the Ladies Veterans B crew battled their way into the Plate Final, finishing 7th after a gutsy row against tough opposition.

Despite the early start and challenging conditions, the day was marked by determination, teamwork and the trademark Charlestown spirit. With medals, experience and plenty of smiles, the crews returned home proud — a brilliant day of racing on the road and another highlight in the 2025 season.
